Depending on slight variances of the average yearly temperature, the horizontal stripes on the shoreline can be different colors. Here, we find a wide band of seaweed between the water and the barren rock. This band matches the average rise and fall of the tides on this shore. The band is subdivided into two different types of seaweed as well. Elsewhere we'll be seeing black bands of mussels, white bands of barnacles, and even nice grey bands of bird crap. There's almost enough here to make a band, but not quite.
