North to Alaska - Sherrila Only - Day 24 (June 9)

Wednesday - Slept in. After a refreshing shower in a "Good Sam" recommended restroom; a sausage, eggs and toast (with pepper jelly) breakfast and a collaboration completing the N.Y. Times crossword, we headed for The Alaska Native Heritage Center. There we watched three dance programs performed by college-age Alaska natives especially selected for their talent and accomplishments plus native athletic game demonstrations performed with great agility. After a walking tour (led by a delightful and well-informed young lady) among five recreated village sites, each highlighting a different native culture, we enjoyed the film, "Stories Given - Stories Shared," about some of their mythological entities.

A visit to the Wednesday Market in the nearby Sears Mall Parking Lot resulted in the purchase of some fresh fruit (expensive, $1.50 per peach), a pair of moose socks for Margaret, and a Beanie-Baby toy crab which currently occupies a prominent place on the dashboard of the pickup. We mall-walked and returned to The Bean around 7 PM for a dinner of jazzed-up clam chowder (onion flakes, dill, butter, pepper, Maggi sauce, grated cheddar, parmesan and chicken sausage added) and tossed salad. G & S brought the laptop over and we looked at the latest snapshots until 1:00 am.
